The make-up rules clinic is online for Basketball.
If you HAVE NOT attended, the clinic is online. Schools need to login to the school secure site (http://schools.khsaa.org) and click on the online rules clinics, and officials must login to the officials secure site (http://officials.khsaa.org) and click on the online rules clinics.
We have transitioned this year's make-up rules meetings to an online version. You will be able to receive credit for attending by viewing the complete presentation and paying the normal $75 fine, on or before midnight Eastern Time, December 31. After this point, coaches and officials who have not yet received credit will not be eligible to participate in postseason play or will need to attend a much higher priced version of the clinic in order to participate this season.
The presentation can be viewed from any computer, and is a web-based flash video product that should be viewable through any web browser. Detailed instructions are listed below. Once you advance to the last slide of the presentation, an email will automatically be generated to the KHSAA so that you can receive credit. If you do not complete the presentation, including a small number of one-question quizzes and that last slide, you will not receive credit.
If you have trouble viewing the clinic, the likely cause is that you do not have your computer internet browser updated to view the latest version of Flash Player. Check with your nearest I.T. expert for assistance.
SCHOOLS For member schools, the clinics are located on the member schools only page. To access the clinic, go to http://schools.khsaa.org and click on the link that says "Online Rules Clinics". If you have any trouble finding that link, you can type the following URL into your internet browser. http://schools.khsaa.org/rule_clinics/If you have trouble logging into the school system, schools should contact Marilyn Mitchell at the KHSAA offices. Coaches must be logged in under their own name, not the name of the Principal or AD in order to receive credit.
Credit will not be given for the clinic until the payment has been received.
OFFICIALS For licensed officials, the clinics are located on a password protected page of the officials' web page. To access the clinic, go to http://officials.khsaa.org and click on the link that says "View online Sports Rules Clinics for 2009-2010". If you have any trouble finding that link, you can type the following URL into your internet browser. http://officials.khsaa.org/rule_clinics/If you have trouble logging into the officials system, officials should contact Fay Isaacs at the KHSAA offices.
Credit will not be given for the clinic until the payment has been received.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIEWING THE CLINIC
First, notice that you will only have access to YOUR sports. If you coach volleyball, for example, you wont have access to the football clinic. Same for officials.
The first thing you need to do is establish how the payment for the clinic is to be made.
If it is off season, there will be no charge for the clinic.
Once you advance to the page listed above (http://officials.khsaa.org/rule_clinics for officials, and http://schools.khsaa.org/rule_clinics for coaches), You will see a hyperlink (web link) in the left column that is labeled Rules Clinic. Clicking on that link begins the clinic.
If it is not offseason, you will need to establish a payment method by clicking the link in the third column labeled Click here to Start by arranging payment.
Two of your payment options include-
- To indicate that you have already been approved for a fee exemption. This will be verified by the KHSAA staff.
- To indicate it is your first year coaching or officiating.
In both of these cases, you will not be given credit for the meeting until the fee waiver has been verified.
There are three other payment options-
- To indicate that you will pay by credit card. For now, that can only be done by contacting the office at 859-299-5472 and giving staff the full details. Until the card has been successfully charged, you will not receive credit. The KHSAA accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover.
- To indicate that you want to write a check for the payment. Until the check has been received, you will not receive credit.
- Schools (but not officials), may indicate that the school should be sent an invoice.
Once a method has been selected, click Accept Payment Method. This can be changed later by clicking on the link in the third column labeled Payment Method
Once you method has been established, you will see in the left column, hyperlinks (web links) to the clinics you can view.
Click on the hyperlink and begin the clinic.
YOU MUST HAVE SOUND ENABLED ON YOUR COMPUTER THROUGH SPEAKERS OR HEADPHONES TO FULLY VIEW THE CLINIC MODULES The clinics are a combination of screen overlays and voice-over audio
If you have started a clinic and have to leave, you should be able to resume from that point by following prompts from the program. If this doesnt function, simply click on Slide 1 in the menu on the left.
Each screen has a menu listing of the upcoming slides on the left, a pause button at the bottom, and navigation keys to allow you to go back and review a slide. You will not be able to advance forward.
During navigation, you may always go back and review a slide.
You will not be able to advance forward during a slide or during the slide show
The key in the bottom right of each screen will change the view, but does not change the control flow of the presentation.
There is a small speaker icon in the bottom left of each screen. If you are having sound issues, clicking on that icon will control volume within the presentation and is separate from the speaker volume control on your system
Upon completion of a clinic, you will be told you have completed, and prompted with a link to return to the clinic listing.
You can continue or come back and resume.
If you have questions about the clinic material, you can click on the email link at the top or use that address to send a direct email.
If you are having trouble navigating the clinics, contact the KHSAA offices in Lexington
Thanks and good luck.

NOTICE TO ALL LICENSED OFFICIALS - BASKETBALL
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRELY BEFORE SIMPLY PICKING UP THE PHONE AND SAYING "IT DOESN'T WORK"
Just a friendly reminder to all that the Basketball Part 2 exam is up and ready for your officials to take the exam. The dates are November 29, 2009 thru December 13, 2009
In order to take the test, you will need to be logged into the KHSAA Officials Division Login System. You will also need to have a login in the event that you need to report a disqualified player, or some other incident to the office. It is different from past years, but easy to navigate.
If you go to the Officials page (http://officials.khsaa.org), you will note a green button on the left that says "Login to KHSAA Officials System". If you click on that green bar, it will open up a login page. The FIRST time you try to access the system, you do not have a login setup. If you have already set up an account, you are ready to go.
If you need to setup your account, please note a bulleted statement that says "I know my id number and last 4 of social from old system, but haven't created an account on new login system". You will click on the link that says "click here" beside that statement.
When you do, the system will ask you for your id number, and your password will be the last four digits of your social security number. When that is entered and matches what is on file here, it will prompt you to enter your email address (which will be your new login to the system), and to supply your own password. You must remember what that is as the office has no way of reviewing and retrieving it for you. Our suggestion for those who use thearbiter.net to get games is to use the same password to minimize forgetfulness. If you do forget, the next line below says "I have already created a login on the new system, but I have forgotten my password". By clicking the "click here" link beside that statement, you can enter your email address, your password will be reset, and you will be sent a link to set a new password.
Once you have created your login, you will then be able to login at any time, and access a variety of printouts listed in the bottom left of that menu that are only available to licensed officials and assigners. Things such as updating your record, reporting a DQ, reporting another incident, taking tests, seeing detailed address records and completing licensing forms. These functions are ONLY available to logged-in, licensed officials.
One note, if you do not have an email address or if your email address is incorrect on your officiating record, you are voluntarily taking yourself out of being able to take these tests, and perform many other functions. And the use of another officials' email address will result in that score being credited to that official, not you. There are tons of free email sites (gmail, etc.) that can be accessed from free computers at libraries and schools and only require your initiative to sign-in.
Once you have completed the test, you will be able to go back on the http://officials.khsaa.org, and on the left side list of reports, you can do a report of all Part 2s and see your score having been posted with twenty-four business hours. If you have also changed emails, phones, etc. online, you may find that you have your score listed twice. This will resolve automatically when routine maintenance is performed on the files.
If you are properly licensed in a sport, and account is set up, you will see a menu of available tests that you can take. Simply click on the link that tells you to start or resume the test. One note that isn't documented very well yet. Some of you who have logged in, and then leave for some reason, may come back and find that the test has returned to question 1. Do not worry. You simply go to the bottom of the screen, and pull down where it says "Jump to", then select the portion where you left off. You can also click Save & Quit at any time if you have to leave the computer and do something else. You can do this a maximum of 5 times per test, and you can actually fail the test once (get less than 80), and come back and take it again. Once you achieve a score of 80 or more, you cannot retake the test to "improve your score".
Lastly, we have placed a link on the page just above the test title where you can click and submit a report should you have any problems. This is the same link for an out of state ejection, etc.
One additional note. If you are an official, and happen to also be an assigner in a sport, you will have to "assume the identity of an official" as by default, assigners cannot take the test. Click that link at the top of the page, and enter the ID number of the official, and click Assume Identity. This will allow you to take the test.
- Please advise Fay Isaacs (fisaacs@khsaa.org) of issues or use the electronic submission button. THANKS
